Raccoons are mammals but they are not canine or Canid. Raccoons are far more similar in their body structure and the sounds they make to felines. Their eating habits are also similar to cats they can eat carry-on, or bodies left to rot by other animals who are done with them. This activity is similar to the vulture and will cause cats to specifically hunt things that are injured to make the hunt easier. That is a cat. Raccoons will often screech like an owl when fighting with another animal like your dog. Or they may growl and hiss at you for coming too near to their children. Either way, do not threaten a raccoon because they are not friendly like many dogs, they are dangerous like a feral cat. A feral cat is something people used to put in their homes to kill mice. You did not pet it or feed it and if it was in the same room as you, you may want to leave it. However, Mrs. Washington found her feral tabby cat to be so effective she named it after her husband, George. That is George Washington. Feral animals like raccoons and squirrels are violent and unpredictable. They will attack you without notice and like all cats, they tend to transfer extremely deadly diseases with their claws. A raccoon can give you rabies but a cat and a raccoon, along with all other felines, can also give you something called cat scratch fever, or blood poisoning. It will swell the wounded area to the state of elephantiasis and will proceed to slowly kill you over 24 hours. If medical attention is not sought by the 23rd hour you will die. This is why it is so important to avoid any contact with any wild animal. Mice, skunks, squirrels and raccoons will all seem cute when they come to your property to find food or water. But when they stay things will start getting hairy. When they break into your attic or shed or deck and start having babies you will know that welcoming them and giving them food was a mistake.
If you are worried about raccoons and other wild animals coming on your property then the solution is simple. They will come, no matter what. They will inspect your property to see if there is access to food and water. if they don’t find anything the likely hood is they will leave and go somewhere else. So keep your garbage cans locked and tight and stored indoors. don’t take it out unless the garbage collectors are on their way and even then, standing beside it until they come will disway wild animals from accessing it. Do whatever you can to remove access to food and water on your property.
