The initial call to the property was for a raccoon in the attic that had entered through a soffit at the roofline into the attic of the customer. The attic entrance was in the master bedroom where most of the activity could be heard. Raccoons in your attic are one of the most dangerous and destructive events that can occur in your home. The total destruction of your entire attic is absolute and the remediation and repair process can be exceptionally expensive especially when taking into account the opening they made in the roof that can let rainwater and snow in. After a raccoon has lived in your attic you will need to take immediate action to protect your home in the long term.
Exterior Inspection
The initial inspection of the exterior revealed a large and aggressive opening in the underside of a soffit wall intersection. The dirt and smell of the entryway made it clean there was an animal inside. The process for getting a raccoon out of an attic is the same as almost all wildlife. Being that wildlife are protected in Ontario they must be evicted humanely without risk of harm. Obviously, accidents can happen but the goal is to give the raccoon an exit they can use to leave safely that will block them from getting back in. This device is called a one-way door.
Interior inspection
The interior inspection of the attic found a lot of signs of animal occupation from feces to chewing damage. The technician did an inspection for immobile babies and found mobile babies so a second one-way door was attached to allow them to vacate. The baby OWD or one-way door is small so the adult cannot access it. The feces were removed and sterilized due to t the danger of raccoon roundworm.
Initial Measures
The initial measures taken by the technician included Attaching the one-way door to the main entryway the animal used to get into the attic. The animal only has a small amount of food stored and must vacate or die. The technician also deodorized the entryway to get rid of the animal smell.
Proposed exclusion
The proposed exclusion by the technician was to attach the one-way door for the adult and mobile babies and also install galvanized waterproof steel mesh to soffit intersection that was sensitive in four different places on the roof as well as an attic vent which was sealed off with a black rubber-coated galvanized steel cage. The attic itself was also disinfected due to raccoon feces and roundworm which can be deadly and incurable if accidentally consumed.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the process was highly effective and the customer has not had another animal in their attic since the work was completed. The one-way door was taken down and the entry was sealed permanently. The disinfection in the attic was effective and the customer is now safe.
